Scent of Dalaran

Smelling mint today in chemistry research reminded me of it. Back when I played WoW, I imagined Dalaran smelled a bit like the chemistry stock room (before they cleaned and organized it). Spicy with a creamy vanilla undertone; it smelled like magic to me. That was likely due to the vanillin and cinnamal plus other (probably bad for you) chemicals. Anyway, I tried to piece out the scents I would use in a candle, soap or even cookies (or cake/cupcakes). I came up with:

  • Vanilla
      Cinnamon (lots) & clove (hint) for that sharp, spicy tone
    • Mint/Peppermint (some) remiscent of the cold breezes (considering the high latitude and elevation)
    • Rum extract (some) for a heady, creamy finish though I imagine mulled wine or mead flavors/scents would add to the effect quite well.
    What do you think? What other smells would you expect in Northrend or elsewhere in the game?

I requested this and subsequently joined tumblr just so I could follow her tumblog. Tier 9 “VanCleef” gear for rogues in WoW was the only full set I ever got and it was fantastic. I felt like a real hero! azerothianappearance: When I first discovered this set, I was so incredibly excited, i couldn’t WAIT to get it for my rogue. It took me up until lvl 70 to realize that it was for the Alliance, and that my troll couldn’t wear it… I’m not always that quick, honest! Also, I apologize for the lack of male equality in this one, but if someone can possibly come up with something, I will be MORE than happy to feature it alongside this one. I had originally pictured a navy vest with bronze/copper embroidery, but the one I had in mind just wasn’t showing up in any of my searches… If you have a suggestion, or would like to try your hand at it, by all means send it in! <3 [Polyvore Here]

     If you have to ask, the cookies were a simple recipe to which I added 1/2 teaspoon of rum extract and 11oz. of chopped Reese’s peanut butter cups. I totally skipped the step that said “Wrap dough in plastic and refrigerate at least 3 hours.” but she liked how soft they were. As such, the cookies were done baking around 8 minutes (probably underdone, but 9 almost burned and again, softness was a win). Next time, I may just follow the “bake 15 minutes at 300 F” for softer cookies cooked more evenly.
